"Staycations" Program
We will be offering youth programming during school vacations to students in grades 1 through 8. Whether you want to learn how to cook, try out a new career, participate in recreational sports or become engaged in academic enrichment, we have a solution for you! Minuteman Community Education will operate two "Staycation" programs during school vacation weeks in February and in April.
Our "Staycation" programs will run April 16 – 19, 2013. Register today!

All students will meet in the cafeteria on Tuesday, April 16th before morning and afternoon classes.
Students who are here for the full day must bring their own lunches.
Parents must complete an Emergency Release Form for each student participating in the programs.
Aspiring Chefs: See What's Cooking!
Put on an apron and pull up your sleeves! You'll be cooking in a professional kitchen and making lots of goodies. Of course, you'll get to sample your cooking and bring some home for your family!

Basketball
Our Basketball program emphasizes the development of fundamental skills. We will work on skills, drills, play competitive games and take part in foul shooting contests, hot shot competitions, and two-on-two games. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, a snack, a water bottle, and running shoes.

Beginner Baking: It's a piece of cake!
This hands-on baking class teaches you everything, from proper recipe reading and measuring cup use to decorating a cake with basic designs. Go home with mouth watering bakery treats such as cinnamon rolls, brownies, cookies, muffins, cakes, quick breads and much more!

Build and Program NXT Lego Robots
Build robots that are fun and entertaining. Learn to build and program a Bumper Car and a Two Wheeled Self Balancing robot that looks and moves like the Segway. Show off your creations to friends and family during a robot parade, with music, on Friday!

Creative Play and Dramatics: Fairy Tale Adventures
This week-long Fairy Tale workshop encourages creative students to
use their imagination in active, creative play and interaction. Each day, students will visit a new Fairy Tale and build a skit based off of their own ideas and interpretations, as well as build, design, and construct crafts and props themselves! Additionally, students will learn beginning theatrical concepts through acting games and activities, improvisation, movement, crafts, and story enactment. Aimed at strengthening communication and listening skills, building social and emotional intelligence, as well as reading comprehension and analysis. Class culminates in a final presentation for family and friends at the end of the week!

Creative Writing
This course is an exercise in the art of creative writing. Students will learn the various tools writers use in creating fiction: point of view, character development, plot development, dialogue, and theme. They will be encouraged to take risks and develop their own writing style. Students will learn one to two "tools" per day, and practice using these tools in their own creative works. At the end of the week, students will construct and bind a book of their writing.

Learn to Build iPhone Games
Learn to build simple games that run on your iPhone or iPad. Get introduced to a new rapid game development tool that that enables 2d game creation in a easy and flexible way for mobile devices. Each student takes home the game they build on their iphone/ipad that they can show friends and family. (We cannot deploy games on jailbroken iPhone or iPads.)

Minuteman Glee Club
Students in grades 5-8 are welcome to join in this "triple threat"
ensemble class! Students will learn the essentials of acting, singing, and dancing, and work together to put on a performance centered around a theme of their choosing, combining songs, scene work, and choreography! The first half of each class session begins with daily instruction in vocal production, acting, and dance, with the second half of the day devoted to writing and rehearsing for the final production. This class culminates in a performance on the last day of class.

Minuteman Sports
This session is for kids who are looking to have some fun playing games. We will play a variety of wiffle ball, indoor soccer, kick ball, mat ball, badmitton, volleyball, capture the flag and more! Sign up with a friend or come and make new friends this vacation. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, a snack, a water bottle, and running shoes.

Wicked Wacky Lab Week
Junior scientists will spend a wild wacky week at the Wicked Cool Lab. Scientists will experiment with polymers to grow their own creatures and create a slew of atomic slime, gak and other non-newtonian fluids. They'll see how to create crystals from supersaturated solutions. Using kitchen chemistry, scientists will discover neat color-changing tricks using acids and bases. Kids will experiment with buoyancy as they build cool cartesian divers, and they'll unlock the secret that puts the glow into glow stick. Every day, scientists will design secret formulas and create their own cool science toys to take home.
